At a glittering awards ceremony at Tattersalls in Newmarket last night, when the likes of Brawn GP won the team of the year title,  Henry Cecil picked up a lifetime achievement award, and Charlotte Edwards from the Ashes winning England Team picked up the Sports personality Award, little BATTS from Old Harlow collected the Community Club of the Year award .

Second seed Po Huang Chen walked off with the first prize of £ 150.00 at the BATTS Super League, which was held on Friday 27 November 2009. This event formed part of three days of top class play at the Harlow Club which took in

Round five of  the British League  Premier Division has been completed and the leaders Drumchapel Glasgow have all but guaranteed that they will retain their title. It is early days but such was the margin of their superiority over second –placed Westfield that it is surely no more than a formality that they will win it again.
 

Things are moving quickly since our new coach Aad Kwakkelstein took up his appointment 2 weeks ago. Aad has highly impressive credentials and coached from grass roots up to national level in Holland. He has made a big impact already in his elite Wednesday sessions at BATTS.
 

Essex Awards Presentation

Booth Academy of Table Tennis were awarded the Community Club of the Year award for their work both reaching out to the local community and also in creating a Regional Centre of Excellence for Table Tennis.

The second weekend of British League Premier Division action takes place at the BATTS Team Peniel Table Tennis Club, The Norman Booth Centre, Eldersfield, Mullbery Green, Old Harlow, Essex, CM17 0EY next weekend (Saturday/Sunday 28/29 November 2009) commencing at 11.00 am on the Saturday and at 10.00 am on the
Sunday. Admission is free and you can expect to see some eagerly contested play.

Some of you may know that last month we picked up the Harlow Community Club of the Year award at Harlow Playhouse. As winners, we were automatically nominated for the Essex Community Club of the year, and last week, live on BBC Essex Radio, we picked up that award too. We now go forward to the Eastern Region award ceremony in December in Newmarket. If by some miracle we were to win that, we would go through to the flagship BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards live on TV.

Next Friday, (27th November) BATTS hosts a 3 day festival featuring the finest players from these shores and beyond. Mind you, it's no exhibition with around £10,000 prize money at stake.
