Well done Ethan!

Congratulations to Alana Mansfield in finishing runner up in the U11 Girls event at the Chandlers 2 star tournament in Grantham on 13th September. Alana was beaten in the final by Anna Hursey who is the current Welsh number 1 at U11.

We look forward to more successes from Alana who will surely improve on her 55 ranking in the U13 national rankings if she maintains her momentum.

BATTS will be hosting the first round of Senior British League matches in Division One on the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 20th and 21st September.
Our top team is getting ready to slog it out with some very tough opposition who will be travelling from a wide area of the country. We hope all our members will look in over the weekend to cheer on our team in their quest for promotion to the Premier Division.
The team will be playing four matches during the weekend, and their first battle begins on Saturday at 10.30am with the second match on Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm.  On Sunday there will be a further two matches starting at 10am and 2pm.
Entry is free during the whole weekend and refreshements will be available in the cafeteria.

MEET OUR TOP  SQUAD

Never to be forgotten by all who took part. We were visited by Jan-Ove Waldner, World Champion in 1997, and Jorgen Persson who won the world title in 1991. Our own juniors and many others who had travelled to Harlow for the event, were given expert coaching during the morning. After lunch the huge crowd of juniors, parents and other spectators were treated to an amazing exhibition match between the two stars. Spectacular rallies, the like of which had never been witnessed at our club, were greeted with rapturous applause. And then the stars continued into the afternoon taking on challenges from those brave enough to try.
The two Swedish stars did more than share their skills.  They were wonderful ambassadors for the sport, chatting with all the juniors and the other visitors. The youngsters they were helping had not been born when these celebrities won their world singles titles, but by the end of the afternoon no-one was in any doubt that they had been in the presence of two of the greatest figures in the history of table tennis. What a privilege for us all.
Here is a photo from the exhibition match.....

Gabby Graziano has been an absentee from the BATTS Performance A coaching squad for a few months while she is taking part in a Raleigh International project in India. She is working in a little village in a rural area where there is no internet (a bit worrying for the family!) and  definitely no table tennis. Gabby spends her days  teaching English at the village school. The photo below shows Gabby's group (she has a small boy on her lap).
We look forward to seeing her back at the club in September.

BATTS will be staging another in our popular series of junior/cadet tournaments in October. Events at U18, U16, U15 and U13.

One of our rising stars Charlotte Marsden has just been chosen to receive an award from the North Herts Table Tennis Association as the most improved junior girl of the season. This was a well-deserved accolade for Charlotte who won the league's U13 and U15 events.

The photo shows Charlotte with some of the trophies she has won this year.

Congratulations to Alana Mansfield who reached the last 16 of the U11 event in the National Championships at Doncaster last weekend.  This was her first experience of a major tournament and she performed magnificently against much older opponents, losing in her group only to the top seed and eventual winner Jasmine Wong.
